Stephen was born on April 9, 1926 in Peoria, a son of Francis Albert and Sarah (Davis) Emrick. He married Beth Ann Kreie in June of 1951. In 1970, he married June C. Weber in Lacon. She preceded him in death on January 2, 1999 in Chillicothe. His parents and one brother, Howard, also preceded him in death.

Stephen is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Ann (Hermann) Brandstatter of Peoria; brother, Frank (Donna) Emrick of Appleton, WI; sisters, Phyllis Nash of Indianapolis, IN, Doris (Art) Hayes of Manito and Mary of Peoria; and special friend, Lilas Marie Riddle of Peoria.

Stephen was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Fifth Army Infantry from January 7, 1949 to February 17, 1950. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to Peoria and later retired as a bookkeeper with OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Stephen enjoyed reading, collecting coins and celebrating the holidays with his family. He loved being outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and taking scenic drives. He was a fan of the Chicago Bears and country music, with Dolly Parton being his favorite performer. His favorite song was “Sioux City Sue”.

At the age of forty-two, Stephen entered college to continue his education. He earned his associates degree in accounting from Midstate College in Peoria.

Stephen always taught his daughter, Elizabeth, to never judge others, because you never know when you might be in their position. He will always be remembered as a down to earth person, a perfectionist and an honest man.
